Find the source of the bad information
Before changing anything, identify what is wrong: the business name, phone number, address, service area, hours, services, ownership, or another fact. Then search the web for that exact outdated detail. AI answers can reflect information gathered from multiple public sources, so fixing only one page may not be enough.
Make your official website the clearest source
Your website should state the core facts about the business in plain text: what you do, where you serve, how to contact you, and which services you actually offer. Avoid burying important facts only inside images. For Google Search, clear crawlable text, internal links, accurate structured data and an up-to-date Business Profile all help search systems understand the business.
Check whether ChatGPT can discover the site
OpenAI says public websites can appear in ChatGPT search and recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot if you want your content to be discoverable, cited and linked. If robots.txt, a firewall, CDN or bot-protection system blocks the crawler, your website may be harder for ChatGPT search to use directly.
Correct the other public sources too
Update the places customers commonly rely on: Google Business Profile, major social profiles, industry directories, chamber or association listings and other authoritative profiles. Consistent public information reduces the chance that outdated versions keep circulating.
Do not chase instant “AI reputation fixes”
No legitimate provider can guarantee that a specific AI response will change on demand. The practical strategy is to improve the quality and consistency of the underlying public information, then monitor over time. If the wrong answer is coming from a specific cited source, correcting that source should be the first priority.
